University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Centre for Petroleum Geoscience (CPG) is now selling the application forms for admission into its postgraduate programme for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following graduate programmes in:

Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD)

  • Petroleum Geosciences
  • Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management

[b] Master of Science (MSc)

  • Petroleum Geosciences
  • Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management (Green Energy Geosciences Option)
  • Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management (Asset Management Option)

[c] Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

  • Petroleum Geosciences.

Programme Duration:-

Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) and Master of Science (MSc) in Petroleum Geosciences

  • Full-Time: 12 months. Physical with real-time online video conferencing (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • Part-Time: 18 months. Real-time online (Monday to Friday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.); and Weekends (Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Physical.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Petroleum Geosciences

  • Full-Time: 24 months.
  • Part-Time: 36 months.

Mode of Study and Examination:-

The mode of study shall be a modular hybrid of onsite and online. Examinations will be administered onsite and online at the end of each module.

Admission Requirements for Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Petroleum Geosciences:-

  1. First degree holders, from recognized Universities with minimum CGPA of 1.50 on a 5-point scale or Higher National Diploma holders, from recognized Institutions of higher learning, with minimum of Upper Credit in Petroleum Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering, and Geo-mining Technology are invited to apply.
  2. Holders of Higher National Diploma certificates, from recognized Institutions of higher learning, with minimum of Lower Credit in the areas above and possess cognate experience in the oil and gas industry are eligible to apply.

All candidates of Nigerian origin resident in Nigeria must have obtained their NYSC discharge certificates.

Admission Requirements for Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management:-

  1. Holders of First degree from recognized universities or Higher National Diploma (Upper credit) certificates from recognized institutions in the Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences and Management with cognate experience in the energy industry are eligible to apply.

Admission Requirements for Master of Science (MSc) in Petroleum Geosciences:-

  1. Holders of first degree certificates with minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 5-point scale or Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) certificates with minimum of Credit, from recognized universities, in Petroleum Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering, and Geo-mining Technology are invited to apply.
  2. Holders of Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) with minimum of Merit, from recognized Universities, in Petroleum Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering, and Geo-mining Technology and possess cognate experience in the oil and gas industry are eligible to apply.

Admission Requirements for Master of Science (MSc) in Green Energy Geosciences and Asset Management:-

  1. Holders of First degree or PGD (credit) certificates from recognized universities in the Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences and Management with three years experience in the energy industry are eligible to apply.

Admission Requirements for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Petroleum Geosciences:-

  1. Holders of Master’s degree certificates with minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale, from recognized universities, in Petroleum Geosciences are invited to apply.
  2. Holders of Master’s degree certificates with minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale, from recognized universities, in Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Geosciences and, Geo-mining Technology and possess cognate experience in the oil and gas industry are eligible to apply.

Application Fee

A non-refundable application fee of twenty thousand naira (N20,000) will be required to be paid to Centre for Petroleum Geosciences (CPG) on-line through e-transact to start the application procedure. The approved receiving banks for the payment are: First Bank, Access Bank, Fidelity Bank, UBA. FCMB and ECO Bank.

Applicants may access the Form on-line from CPG Website, www.cpguniport.com and follow instruction for submission. Applicants may also collect the Form in person and follow submission procedure.

  1. Completed Application Forms must be returned to the Director, Centre for Petroleum Geosciences, University of Port Harcourt, on or before Friday, 12th October, 2024
  2. Aptitude Test holds on Friday 26th October, 2024
  3. Oral interview holds in Friday 26th October, 2024
  4. Admitted candidates will be communicated and also names will be displayed on the CPG Website www.cpguniport.com on or before Friday 2nd November, 2024
